2021 Edition
#NaturaJazz is back!
The 8th edition of the International Festival of Jazz and Nature Photography, #naturajazz, will arrive in 2021.
This year, on Thursdays and Fridays in May, the MUNA, Museum of Nature and Archeology, will become the epicenter of lovers of good music and nature photography, in a unique show that each year gains more followers. and combines the best live sound with projections of spectacular images that show the richness and biodiversity of the natural environment on our planet. A free event aimed at bringing photography closer to the public and raising awareness about the importance of enhancing the natural environment.
Born in 2014, #naturajazz has the following goals:
– Create in MUNA a meeting space between culture and the environment.
– Show MUNA as a space for the exchange of cultural, scientific and informative experiences.
– Convert #naturajazz into an international cultural and environmental reference.
Over the years, the festival has managed to position itself as an artistic space of reference within and outside the island scene, with a musical program that has been to combine the presence of local bands with others from locations such as Morocco, Gambia, Mauritania, Senegal, Cape Verde or Portugal. After seven editions, it has also become a clear benchmark for the sound that is made on the islands, receiving every year numerous proposals from local groups that want to join the program.
In addition, the increase in the quality of the photographic proposals received, made on all continents and from photographers from many countries, is significant. Each year, the task of selecting the twelve winning projects becomes more difficult for the jury. In the last edition, a total of 99 projects were presented, from countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Morocco, Brazil, the US, Italy, Ukraine, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Germany and Venezuela, in addition to those received from eight Spanish autonomous communities. The images presented showed the nature of various places in the world, such as the Maldives, Ethiopia, Argentina, Kenya, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Iceland, Brazil, Colombia, Morocco, Mexico and Finland, as well as Spain and the Canary Islands. Work is being done to overcome this spectrum of places and nationalities in 2021.
This 2021 edition, like the previous one, is going to be special due to some circumstances:
– A festival will be held to guarantee the safety of the public, the artists and the organization’s staff. Culture is safe and #NaturaJazz will be demanded to the maximum to guarantee people’s health. This commitment will translate into a large number of restrictions (of capacity, traceability, duration times, mobility …) but they represent a necessary condition to be able to carry out this event in the circumstances that we live in.
– #NaturaJazz 2021 will search all the digital windows at its fingertips to reach as many people as possible. Technology has become a necessary ally to join interests and wills.
– As in the previous edition, the jazz program will focus mainly on bands and artists from the Canary Islands. The organization has considered it essential to bet, in these tough times, on the very high quality of the local training courses, weighed down by the difficulty of exercising their profession outside the Islands, given the significant restrictions on mobility to which we are subjected. However, this year some very prominent figures from the international jazz scene will join the program.
– Finally, we will continue to bet decisively on the internationalization of the nature photography contest. An effort will be made to try to achieve a global reach of the contest, involving the best photographers on the planet.
We want to think that this month of May 2021, in these times of uncertainty and restrictions, #naturajazz will allow us to travel to untamed landscapes and deep sea. Meanwhile, some impossible melodies will remove our guts….
